It's official: Punctum is going all NaNoWriMo all November.
A couple of weeks ago when I committed to doing NaNoWriMo, I realized that I was going to have to triage. I wasn't going to be able to 1) do my work (as a college professor); 2) blog three times a week about Eric Maisel's A Writer's Space; 3) and do NaNoWriMo.
Something was going to have to give.
The public university system for which I work is in profound financial crisis. I have 300+ students this term. The semester is half over and is about to start careening toward its end, with furlough days and holidays riddling the month with holes. I have a conference coming up mid-month, administrative work, and lots and lots of meetings. Oh, and if at all feasible, I have article revisions to do in November as well.
In fact, don't get me started on what I have to do during the month of November because I just stopped for a moment and contemplated it, and I almost had a panic attack. Let's just say that triaging work is Not an Option.
However, I can defer my consideration of the remaining chapters of Maisel's book until December. When NaNoWriMo is safely put to bed and November is behind us, I can return to the remaining chapters of A Writer's Space and no doubt be devoutly happy that NaNoWriMo is a thing of the past.
Until then? I know myself. It's full-tilt boogie into obsessive mode for me, starting tomorrow night (well, Sunday morning, really) at 12:01 a.m.
I'll still be blogging on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, but those entries are going to be NaNoWriMo-specific.
Under the circumstances, then, I'd say it's time to introduce you to my NaNoWriMo novel, or at least, to its imagined cover art (with a little free help from BannerSketch because I am so not a graphic artist):
Right now I've got an outline, a chapter breakdown, and a very rough idea of scenes sketched out in yWriter5.
And a concept.
And that's about it.
But people have crossed the NaNoWriMo finish line with far less preparation. And come hell or high water, I intend to do the same myself.
It's almost sure not to be pretty. But a challenge, yes. And fun. And whatever else it is, I'll be blogging about it here three times a week (at least).
On your mark, get set ...
Are you ready to GO ?
