Writer’s Digest - Short Short Story Competition.
I'm simultaneously fascinated and terrified by the discipline, skill, and honesty necessary to the construction of really good pieces of brief writing.
There's absolutely no room for bullshit. (Golly, that can be tough for an academic!) Just clarity, precision, and -- when you're truly lucky -- beauty.
As one who's struggling today with an unlovely article draft that's not quite finished (but will be shortly!) and that's also already too long and, er, well, verbose (like this sentence), I need to discover brevity.
That's today's intention.
And challenge.
